Mobile, Alabama (September 10, 2012) – The National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) will induct boating safety advocate John Johnson into its Boating Safety Hall of Fame at the 2012 National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Conference in Mobile, AL.

Mr. Johnson has been employed with NASBLA for over 20 years. He began working as an administrative contractor for NASBLA and, as NASBLA began to emerge as a national organization, Mr. Johnson emerged as a leader, first as the executive director and then stepping into the much-deserved role as Chief Executive Officer of NASBLA. During his time with NASBLA, Mr. Johnson has provided leadership qualities, focusing as an advocate for policies and resources to reduce the loss of life on the water.

“John has been a shining example of an advocate of boating safety throughout his career,” comments Virgil Chambers, executive director of the NSBC. “The manner in which he achieves goals and develops lasting relationships have all been great strides in the name of furthering boating safety and education programs.”

Mr. Johnson has always been a supporter of the National Safe Boating Council and its programs as well as supporting other organizations and missions he has truly believed in. Among the highlights in his career, Mr. Johnson was presented with the prestigious William B. Garner National Boating Safety Leadership Award in recognition of his ongoing efforts in boating safety at the 52nd annual NASBLA Conference held in Milwaukee, Wis. On September 10 – 14, 2011.

“John is an exemplary example of a person who stays the course regardless of popularity or criticism,” remarks Jim Graybeal, immediate past president of NASBLA. “His vision for NASBLA has thrust this association into the forefront of the highest level of respect and esteem within the recreational boating safety community.”

The National Safe Boating Council utilizes the Boating Safety Hall of Fame to bring the deserving attention to those individuals that tirelessly and selflessly commit themselves to such a worthy cause and, in turn, making our nation’s waterways safer for all to enjoy.
