States gathered for this year’s National Association of State Boating
Law Administrators (NASBLA) Award Luncheon. The Boating Safety
Award, sponsored by the National Safe Boating Council, was awarded
this year to Captain Mike England, Georgia’s boating education
coordinator.

Thousands of boating enthusiasts set a new world record for life jacket wear during the fifth annual ‘Ready, Set, Wear It!’ Life Jacket World Record Day. At 175 events around the globe, 6,973 participants inflated their life jacket or wore an inherently buoyant life jacket, breaking the world record for life jacket wear on May 17, 2014.

The U.S. Coast Guard released its 2013 Recreational Boating Statistics recently, revealing that boating fatalities decreased to 560, the lowest number of boating fatalities on record. This news comes just one year after the previous record low was recorded in 2012, with 651 recreational boating fatalities. From 2012 to 2013, deaths in boating related accidents decreased by 14 percent.

The 2014 International Boating and Water Safety Summit (IBWSS), held in Nashville, Tenn., closed its final day of sessions with the announcement of this year’s Media Contest winners. In total, 112 submissions were reviewed by the judging panel – a new record for entries.
At the 2014 International Boating and Water Safety Summit, held in Nashville, Tenn., Marty Law was inducted in the Boating Safety Hall of Fame. Marty Law has been involved in boating safety for more than 33 years.
Each year, the National Safe Boating Council carefully reviews and selects those individuals who have made a lasting contribution to the interest of boating safety. Dr. Daniel Maxim is no exception and it is because of this that Dan is being inducted into the Boating Safety Hall of Fame.
