Sea Tow Foundation Opens 1,000th Life Jacket Loaner Station

The Sea Tow Foundation, with support from MarineMax and Sea Tow International, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of its 1,000th Life Jacket Loaner Stand at the Seminole Street Boat Ramp in Clearwater, FL.

Fall Boating Safety Circulator Available

The 2022 fall issue of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Boating Safety Circular is now available. Topics covered in this issue include: electric propulsion, new point of contact for Manufacturer’s Identification Codes, substantial risk safety defect, events, and recalls. The Boating Safety Circular is a product of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety — Boating Safety Division — Recreational Boating Product Assurance Branch. 

USCG Appoints Two to National Boating Safety Advisory Committee

The U. S. Coast Guard has announced the appointment of two individuals to serve as new members of the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC). The new members are Robert Newsome, senior vice president of operations at the National Marine Manufacturers Association and Ty Hunter, program director for the State of Utah Division of Recreation Boating.

U.S. Coast Guard Boating Safety Circular Spring 2022

The 2022 spring issue of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Boating Safety Circular issue covers: mudboat and airboat flotation exemptions, best manufacturing practices in quality controls for flotation foam in recreational vessels, a calendar of events, and recalls.

2021 Recreational Boating Statistics Available

The U.S. Coast Guard has released its 2021 Recreational Boating Statistics Report, revealing that there were 658 boating fatalities nationwide in 2021, a 14.2 percent decrease from 2020.

Operation Dry Water 2022

Once again this year, officers in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies will be teaming up for Operation Dry Water (ODW). Law enforcement officers will be on heightened alert for those violating boating under the influence laws, as well as spreading awareness about the dangers associated with BUI. 

Fishing Participation Exceeds 50 Million for Second Time in 14 Years

Fifty-two million Americans age 6+ went fishing in 2021, according to preliminary data from the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation’s (RBFF) 2022 Special Report on Fishing. Down slightly from 2020, fishing participation exceeded 50 million for the second time in 14 years, posting gains over 2019 and supporting a six-year upward trend.

It’s National Safe Boating Week

National Safe Boating Week is held from May 21-27, 2022, reminding all boaters to brush up on boating safety skills and prepare for the boating season. This observance week is the annual kick-off of the Safe Boating Campaign, a global awareness effort that encourages boaters to make the most of their boating adventure by being responsible.
