The National Safe Boating Council Honors ACR Electronics with the Horizon Award

Manassas, VA (June 17, 2015) – The National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) is proud to announce Sustaining Member ACR Electronics, Inc. (ACR) as the recipient of the 2015 Horizon Award. ACR received a brass mariner’s telescope at the Congressional Reception held May 13, 2015 at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC. ACR was commended for their support of NSBC’s Saved by the Beacon National Campaign, which is designed to educate recreational boaters about the importance of 406 MHz beacons and how to use them correctly in the case of a boating emergency.

The NSBC’s Horizon Award is presented to individuals and organizations whose vision for the advancement of safer boating sees beyond the horizon to the next level of boating safety development. The actual award is a brass mariner’s telescope like those used aboard ships by the early mariners to scan the waters horizon. The name of the recognized individual or organization is engraved on the trunk of the telescope along with the year.

“Working on the Saved by the Beacon campaign with the NSBC, a leading organization in recreational boating safety, was professionally rewarding. Knowing the impact that the Saved by the Beacon message will carry has been personally rewarding,” shared Nichole Kalil, media specialist at ACR Electronics.

The Saved by the Beacon campaign launched at an event coordinated and co-hosted by the NSBC and ACR, held in conjunction with the Miami Boat Show on February 11, 2015. The event included a live Search and Rescue Demo and Expert Panel Discussion with representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the NSBC. ACR helped develop the Saved by the Beacon logo and content for the campaign’s deliverables, available at savedbythebeacon.com.

“The NSBC always values opportunities to work with its members, and coordinating with ACR on our new Saved by the Beacon campaign was a natural fit,” commented Rachel Johnson, executive director of the NSBC. “By combining industry technology and educational messaging, our campaign can further reach our key audience: recreational boaters.”

ACR continues to support the NSBC’s initiative by increasing awareness and gaining national headlines for the campaign. Their work advances boating safety through their messaging and life saving technology. The NSBC is a lead organization for the Saved by the Beacon campaign, produced under a grant from the Sports Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.
