United States Space Force Lieutenant General helps share safe boating message with Southern California USCG Auxiliary during National Safe Boating Week

United States Space Force Lt. Gen. Philip Garrant is joined by several members of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary District 11 South from counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Inland Empire and Ventura to promote “Wear a Life Vest” during the National Safe Boating Week campaign. This occurred during the 2024 City of Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade event in which the US Space Force was selected as the Honored Branch and Lt. Gen Garrant was the Grand Marshal. This is an excellent example of Inter-Service partnership promoting “Always wear an approved and properly fitting Personal Flotation Device (PFD) when boating” message.

The very popular US Coast Guard Guide “How to Choose the Right Life Jacket” is held by Lt. Gen Garrant and USCGAUX Flotilla Commander Steven Csik (12-05), who are flanked by USCGAUX members Marcel Stribling (12-07), JP Durrer (Flotilla Commander 11-11), Marc Mazorow (Flotilla Commander 05-09), Eddie Borgwardt (12-04) and Dave Padilla (Flotilla Commander, 06-06). These members participated through the event weekend with several other Auxiliarists and Active Duty Coast Guard colleagues to get out the NSBW “Boat Responsibly” reminder. These efforts not only benefit our Southern California residents, but members of our military service branches who are boaters themselves, including Lt. Gen Garrant.

Torrance is one of few a cities nationwide sanctioned by the Department of Defense to honor our Armed Forces through an annual Armed Forces Day Parade & Celebration. Torrance’s Armed Forces Day Parade has the distinction of being the nation’s longest running military parade sponsored by any city.
